Registering a second hand game to origin? So, I'm totally new to origin. I have a chance to buy The Sims 4 (hard copy) second hand from a person who didn't like it and would sell it for cheaper price. My question is can I play the game if the previous owner has played it through origin? Is there like a product code that can only be used once when installing the game/registering the game to my origin?I read that somebody bought the game from Ebay and coudn't even install it because the product code had already been used.I'm not a 100% sure if the seller has even played it through origin (I think so though because they sayd they played it like three times). And isn't that required anyway? I'm gonna be bummed if I can't buy this game off them because the price would be very good considering it's a base game.If somebody knows about this stuff and would clear this up I'd be so thankful!Btw. I think things couldn't get any worse if this game could not be bought second hand just because Origin's involved. So, I'm totally new to origin.

I'm pretty sure you should be able to play it no problems. I remember reading that more than one computer can have the same exact game installed as long as only one person is playing it. So if the original owner uninstalls it/never plays it again you shouldn't have any difficulties. Origin doesn't mind sharing as long as you're not trying to play at the same time. I like the way they have done this, although I can see it being an issue for some people.ETA: Link to where I read thisSo maybe. I'm not sure if the answer is saying you can play the game as long as they are not, or saying that you can play the game as long as they are not logged on to Origin.

Maybe email Origin and ask? I don't think you can do that, as the game gets registered to your origin account upon installation, as far as I know. How much is he asking for? I got the game through origin for $44 and it was the Deluxe Version, so I think you could check it out to be sure.

Some countries' Origin have lower price tags. The price is 58$. And you bought it with a great price.

Unfortunately in my country it's not that cheapI'm probably going to call the deal off and buy the game for normal price then. Thank you for help everyone, glad I didn't buy it before asking here:D. I think I can't really take a risk that it might not work after all.

I'm not sure if the answer is saying you can play the game as long as they are not, or saying that you can play the game as long as they are not logged on to Origin. Maybe email Origin and ask?even though you could play the game on multiple computers i thought that once the code is registered to an account it can't be registered to a diffrerent account. So if you wanted to play the game on a different computer you would have to go on the account it was first registered on i think i'm not entirely surewhen i uninstalled the sims 4 and reinstalled it because i couldn't get it to work (it still doesn't work because my video card is not compatable) it didn't ask for a code because that key code was still registered to my account even though i had uninstalled it.so i don't think it would work on a different account. My little brother couldn't play it from his user.In my country I can only make a call to EA / Origin support so I think I'll pass.:D.

The key is 'soulbound' to the first Origin account it got registered to, which means no other Origin account can upon installation register the game with the used key. You could consider the key terminated upon use.

However you can install the game on 5 different computers - but you still need to go through the Origin account the key got soulbound to. Technically 5 people can play the same copy of TS4, but only 1 at a time can be online on Origin, which is not required to play the game, since you can run Origin in offline mode. Thanks to everybody, I cancelled the deal I had with the person and they said they won't be trying to sell their game then.

Hopefully they understood what I was telling them about this thing, would be very bad if somebody bought the game and couldn't play it.I ended up buying the game from a local electronics store and it should arrive this week! Buying it at this time is a little bitter sweet since the price was kinda high (it was cheaper than I originally thought though). Hopefully the game won't disappoint me. I think the legality of buying someone's Origin account is technically dependent on which country you live in, so if I were you I'd check that option out. (It's not a decision to be made lightly, and you'll want to do up-to-date research.) Plenty of people will have installed only one game per account because of the potential freedom to sell. Valve expressly banned the selling of accounts and I think I've heard about them following it up but only because people were stupid enough to advertise on Steam's own forum, which yes is directly undermining sales and has other implications such as getting badges you have not earned for achievements ingame, and I can see why the community would be upset by it as much as the company.

In Steam's case, players largely accept it because the platform offers ways to gift unregistered purchases to others, has its own internal stock market of items for some games which can be converted to real currency, and lowers prices dramatically as part of its frequent sales. Aside from whether or not it is legal, I don't see any reason it should be illegal to resell a game if you relinquish all rights to use it at the moment of transaction.

It would be better if they let the seller set the price as part of an approved system and therefore ensured that save files remain with the original account, albeit unplayable. One thing I would like to know is whether or not the TOU is actually binding if you live somewhere where they can't ask for certain rights but you signed it anyway. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be in court over that.Nowhere have I stated that I recommend the trade of accounts or take any responsibility for surprise screwovers EA may enact in spite of your understanding of the law. It seems to me that all these 'DRM Cronicles' we're witnessing today have more to do with second-hand purchases than pirates anyway.Well, DRM doesn't stop pirating.

It just slows it.by like a day. We all know a working version of this is available in certain predictable places. I chose to purchase TS4, though, because I said during TS3 days that I would as long as they didn't include horrible DRM like Securom. Activation authentication is reasonable.Truth is, reselling a game was never copacetic because it's too easy to do so while maintaining a copy for yourself. So, if you register a particular the game with a particular serial number with your Origin account, you can never 'unregister' that game from your account? If you could, the new owner of the game would register the game on their account, which means that the original owner could not use it anymore. So, the argument that the original owner could keep a playable copy for themselves doesn't apply. This whole thing makes no sense except that it screams: You need to buy a new copy and you need to keep your copy whether you play or not.

One less reason to make good games as opposed to releasing anything that sells.until it doesn't anymore because people do eventually get sick of sub-par quality. Never has been. How long you keep using a game doesn't matter to anyone but you. If you give/sell your copy to your friend, that means they didn't pay the software company for it. It's the same concept as illegal music sharing.

I'm not judging (really, really not), I'm just stating how it is.Really, if you want a copy, there are ways to get it without paying. Ways I'm not getting into. Ways I'm not getting into.I don't know where you're from so I can't speak about your location, but in the US we can legally resell any physical product legally manufactured by and bought from the copyright holder (the distinction between physical and digital has been made recently). So if you bought the discs you can resell them legally, but if you bought the digital download, then you can't legally. Now, it seems EA's trying to stop people from legally reselling discs by fusing accounts to games, though.
